This reader is so excited to have found this wonderful series. A friend gave me a paperback in the series. I enjoyed it so much I decided to read the first book. It was a great read so I went to book 2 and now look forward to the entire series. Coel is a fabulous writer. The mystery and action are compelling and the characters are believable and interesting. Being Catholic, I apreciate Coel's respect for Father John as a priest. While she portrays his frailties as a human being, she never denigrates him. Her books are inciteful into the beautiful Arapaho culture. There is mystery and action that keeps one turning the page. Am looking forward to reading book 3 and more in the series.

I always enjoy a good mystery. Believable characters, brief but effective setting descriptions. The lack of graphic gruesomes made it possible for me to read this at bedtime (the only consistent reading time I get.) I also appreciated the small, intriguing cultural descriptions. Good read, Ms Coel. I look forward to book 3. :)

I have read the first two of this series of books and I really like them. Unfortunately, the next few in the series aren't available in kindle format and I am not interested in buying the paperbacks. Would like to have read the whole series, but I would rather read them in order. If Amazon ever decides to make the rest of them available on the kindle, I would love to read the rest. Until then, the first two will have to do. But I do recommend them for mystery lovers if you don't mind skipping around in the series. Good characters and great stories.

I have read all of Tony Hillerman’s books. This just doesn’t measure up. Too high of a bar for comparison.

Margaret Cole is off to a great start with her first and second outings in this mystery series. I read this second book immediately after finishing the first. This too was a quick, fun read. The two main characters are developing nicely, with a little more history on one and a new little twist for the other. This murder mystery has the twists and turns happen almost immediately. And as in the first book, you again get to experience more of the culture and lifestyle of the Arapaho People.... good and bad. The descriptions of the landscape add to the storyline, making you feel as if you were there. Again, if you want a great summer read, I recommend this book. Can't wait to continue reading more in this series.

What a great book. So many twist and turns that all came together in the end. Ty great read great characters too . I look forward to reading more by this author .

Wonderful mystery intertwined with the Arapaho Nation culture and beliefs. This was do well written, I could feel the cold and see the snow in my minds eye. Excellent descriptions

Liked the characters and how through belief and keeping at something you can eventually come up with the answers for all the crimes.

Review

“Danger, ancient legends, and a legal fight for the sacred. This powerful book . . . is a balanced account of the legal struggle over an important historic site.” -- Donald L. Fixico, author of American Indians in a Modern World"Cave Rock should be on the reading list of all Lake Tahoe scholars and lovers." - Nevada in the West"Though a slim volume, it packs a powerful wallop in its balanced depiction of this struggle." -- Environmental History

The book "Cave Rock: Climbers, Courts, and a Washoe Indian Sacred Place" takes an in depth look at the complexity of the court case surrounding the area. The authors of the book attempt not only to look just at the court case but why Cave Rock is significant to rock climbers and Washoe people alike. The book made the complexities of the Cave Rock case as easy to understand as possible while keeping the sensitivity of the subject to the Washoe and Climbing culture in mind. Both sides of the argument surrounding Cave Rock were equally and eloquently represented engaging the reader and providing a deeper understanding of the Cave Rock Case as a whole. Over all a great book.

Well written but very technical great text book but not my general choice for reading.

I climbed at Cave Rock from the late 80s to the late 90s. I was there before Dano improved the floor of the trash-littered cave with beautiful stone work. I climbed with Dano, and Sharma as a teen, and Dmitri and the rest of the crew. When the government closed the cave it was a very very sad day. The government took the most extreme position to appease a group that had never shown any interest in this public property over a public highway. Climbers improved this beautiful place. The government and Indians destroyed it. This story is a perfect example of weak government employees bowing to political correctness and shafting a user group who didn't have the clout to fight back effectively.

The Cave Rock tale is a story of a small user group being singled out because a few sexist old men didn't want to see powerful women in sports bras climbing on their "sacred place" (but not so sacred that a highway wasn't blasted through it). It is a story of a minority group playing the race card and cowardly bureaucrats and courts bowing to their demands. It is a story of the Federal Government establishing a religious site. How would the public and media respond if we replaced the Washoe with the Mormons? Cave Rock is a sacred place to rock climbers as well, and the Washoe could have had a great ally in helping to preserve Cave Rock from further destruction, but they chose instead to pick a fight. When the next assault on Cave Rock comes, who will rally to defend it?
