GURPS Magic does exactly what it sets out to do, from it's excellent spell design rules and extra spells for the default magic system to it's simple yet well-made systems for entirely new, more freeform magic. As GURPS supplements go, it is one of the best I have ever owned, and does it's job not just well, but with panache.The indexing and organization of the book, like all GURPS 4E books, is easily one of the best of any RPG I have ever played or seen a core book or sourcebook for. If you can't find what you need to in one of the GURPS 4E books, you're usually not trying to.Even if you don't plan on playing GURPS, this sourcebook is full of useful contextual information, like almost every GURPS book is. I have so far used this information in crafting GURPS settings and to make a Savage Worlds campaign world feel more authentic.While not useful for every campaign, there is simply too much in the book that is useful to rate this anything less than five stars.

Excellent presentation of various ways to handle magic in a fantasy campaign. Steve Jackson's staff always does their homework in the reams of fantasy fiction writing. Their take here is quite different mechanically from Old School Vancian magick. Not better, just more flexible for stories that deviate from the Gygaxian setting model. Looking forward to trying it out with the right players!

Possibly the best splat book for GURPS 4th edition, the Magic book takes all of the magic spells from previous editions' splat books and compiles them here, updated and streamlined for convenience. Every spell you'll ever need (and rules to create every other spell) are here and not just for medieval campaigns, but science fantasy as well!

One of the things I appreciate about GURPS books is the color page edges signifying each chapter. I can open the book and see which chapter I'm in by the page color border. Unless I missed it, the Amazon page doesn't specify that the book would be printed in B&W. Otherwise, the book is exactly as ordered. GURPS 4e Magic, in all its glory.

Finally in print through the magic of print-on-demand, the default magic system for GURPS offers tons of spells and options for those who don't want to dive into the other systems. Plus, it's the default! Everyone who plays GURPS needs this one.

I already live with hypothyroidism due to over half of my thyroid was removed in 2005 because they thought it was cancerous because of extremely intensive radiation cancer treatment I had had years earlier. So I'm already on both synthetic T-4 & T-3. Regardless of all that, this book taught me more about iodine and how it's related to thyroid function than any physician ever has. In fact, no doctor has ever even mentioned anything about iodine to me. If you live with unexplained fatigue, weight gain or loss, ADHD or a myriad of other medical issues....that your physician has written off because "you're getting older", your blood work is within "normal" ranges or they tell you they don't believe in supplements because you should be able to get all nutritional requirements from the food you eat than please take a little over an hour out of your busy schedule and read this book. You deserve the peace of mind and your body deserves to be treated with absolute love and respect. Remember you've lived with your body longer than anyone else has so if something doesn't FEEL right, it probably isn't.

Really 3.5 stars. I would have liked for this book to have focused more on Iodine and less on the various other things that the author mentioned. In my view it was all good advice, but it would have been better suited to title the book "all the many different things you need to optimize your health", rather than just iodine. It was informative and enjoyable though. Personally I think it would have been great if right out of the gate the author said "Iodine is great, here is all the food that has the highest amount right here in this list, here are the best supplements and the recommended amount to take and THEN go on in to all the detail. The author eventually gets to that information, but even then the dosing isn't exactly clear If you like things to be organized and right on your kindle then this is a pretty decent way to get a bunch of information on iodine. Honestly, you probably could collect most of this information online if you looked around for it, but it may be nice for some people to have it all organized. There are a lot of things said in here that may or may not be scientific, I don't know. For the price of free I have no qualms about reading this book, weather it will be worth it or not when it costs money to you with be determined by how much you have read on iodine already, and how willing or unwilling you are to do research on the internet.

This book was more general than I thought it would be. I can't say that there was anything wrong with it except that the editing could have been better. For someone new to iodine deficiency, the book gives good starter information. However, I had already read two excellent books with detailed information, so to read this afterward wasn't very helpful tome. If someone doesn't know anything about iodine insufficiency, this could be a good place to start.

I became so distracted with the broken English and misspelled words. Some decent information, but also some terrible advice (eat fish sticks, really?). I would not recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn about iodine. There are far superior books on iodine supplementation on Amazon. In my opinion this ebook was not worth the purchase price, which was peanuts.

While the information given is excellent, there is a lot of repetition, and there should be information included on where to get iodine in the correct amount.

This athletic tradition has deeper roots than some kids can imagine. A Passion for Victory seeks to tell the story of that tradition, starting with the Ancient Greeks through the early modern era.It opens with a chronology that highlights major events. The first story is about a man who survived the icy waters after the Titanic sank and went on to be an Olympic champion. The timing of that story is also notable because 2012 marks the 100 year-anniversary of the Titanic sinking.The first two chapters go into a lot of detail about the original Olympic games that took place in Ancient Greece. It compares those games to the modern ones. The next several chapters focus on the revival of the modern Olympic games in the 1800s, particularly the first 100 years. The epilogue focuses on the Olympics around WWII and includes several photographs. An appendix features lists of medal records won from 1896 to 1948.This book reads very much like a textbook and isn't as engaging as others I have read. The language used is more appropriate for older readers, which is why I have it classified as young adult and not so much as a chapter book. Also, discussions of Hitler and political topics are more appropriate for older students. These aspects of the Olympics are not as often discussed when talking about the topic. I did also notice much more discussion of women in the politics, as well. It is full of lots of information and resources for further study.I received a complimentary eARC in exchange for my honest review.
