I used to have all of the series in trade paperback, but lost many when I moved. I was delighted to find this in hardcover, and it's in great shape. This is part two of Skye's journey and it is epic. Any books by Bertrice Small are very worth the read, and this book is no exception.

Beatrice Small is an excellent writer. My only problem with her writing is that she describes things a little too much. I love the strong woman she has in Skye O'Malley, I love the character. It amazes me how the Queen can direct her life the way she does. In this day and age, we would never allow anyone to do that but it just goes to show how things used to be and it just is an intriguing book in some many ways!

This is another book in the O Malloy saga which follows Skye from the south seas to Algiers and then to France. In each country she meets great adversary but finds her greatest love. Lots of intrigue and drama enjoy!

I loved the original Skye O'Malley, and wasn't even aware there were any sequels for many years. It was fun to spend more time the always gorgeous and irresistible and perfectly dressed Ms. O'Malley, but the book isn't nearly as good as the first. If you love the characters, beware. But if you're just interested in reading about Skye indulging her 'passionate nature', this has plenty of action for you.

I've read the O'Malley series at least 7 times. It's get better each time. Will never stop reading them. Will put away and pick up another time again.

While I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it was immediately apparent that someone(s) else helped write several sections of this book. The expletives were distracting in their repetition and the WAY each character talked changed frequently. I was not disappointed by the plot line, but the constant flip flopping of the writing style was not something I could over look.

I do enjoy Bertrice Small's writing. Her descriptions of life during those days gone by are very good. They are clear and descriptive. I enjoy her descriptions of the foods they ate and how they looked. I also enjoy her descriptions of life in those days. and the clothes they wore and how they lived. I have enjoyed all the boooks I have read written by Bertrice Small. I try to read them in order and get wrapped in each family's lives.

Read this about 25 years ago and enjoyed it. The way this story started made me feel like I missed a book! Awkward beginning kept me off balance for a while. But, Skye is such a strong character and that's what kept me going. I just had to find out how her story would end.

About the Author

Jintana Rattanakhemakorn graduated from Chiang Mai University with a bachelor's degree in Thai and completed her master's degree in English at Khon Kaen University. She also holds a certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language from Seattle University College of Education. She has been teaching Thai to U.S. college students at the study abroad program in Khon Kaen, Thailand, administered by the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) since 2004. 'Easy Thai' is a great introduction into the Thai language. With its easy-to-use grammar notes and situation-based language practice, 'Easy Thai' makes the learning enjoyable. Best of all, the accompanying CD gives lots of pronunciation practice, a must for a tonal language like Thai. The only down-side is that the CD lesson order does not match that of the book. This means you have to search around for your correct lesson. Still, this is only a minor blemish with an otherwise excellent language learning tool.

Once I was able to download the audio and correlate the audio with the lessons, this was a good reference and beginner course.

I’ve purchased over a half dozen basic Thai language learning products. This is one of the better ones. It’s about 70% good and 30% bad. I’m hoping the authors of all products pay attention to my comments and come out with something excellent. Please let me know if you do.1st remember you’re teaching Thai, not English.Use only Thai word order, not a mix of Thai word order and English word order which is just confusing (I already know correct English word order). I want to know which Thai word matches which English word. With idiomatic expressions I realize that is not possible; however, at the basic language level training there should be a reasonable match.Drop the accent marks on the phonetic spellings. I don’t know what they mean and there is no point to learning them since they are neither Thai nor English. They are not helpful. I can fine-tune my pronunciation when I go to Thailand.Eliminate the weird phonetic attempts. Example: “hiw” (from elsewhere this seems to be pronounced as "hew"). I have no idea how to pronounce this (from elsewhere this seems to be pronounced as "hew"). Ask a well-educated standard American English speaker to say each of your examples out loud as proofreading for your product. (No offense to British English speakers but it is clear which market you are targeting.)2nd remember it’s basic, not advanced. Don’t use compound or complex examples and keep the examples (both Thai and English) to five words or less (five is the magic number for being able to immediately repeat). Example: “Chan mii phi-saaw nueng khon kap nawng-chayy sawng khon kha.” It’s ridiculous to have this as basic practice.Your “pattern practice” would have worked better as the “dialogue” practice for the CD. As it is, the “dialogue” practice does not allow enough time for the fastest speed talker to repeat and the pattern practice is not on the CD.“Khun Malee” and “Khun Jim” need to be dropped since they are shown in the Thai and not shown in the English. (Please don’t add them to the English as a fix. Saying "Jim" a hundred times is irritating, pointless, and a waste of my time.)Have each statement able to stand alone. In “dialogue” sometimes you have the Thai repeat the noun but the English shows a pronoun.Don’t try to mix female/male in the same example – it’s just confusing. Example: “Mai kin kha/khrap khawp-khun kha/khrap” for “No, thank you”. Separate it into two examples: “Mai kin kha khawp-khun kha” and “Mai kin khrap khawp-khun khrap”. (I don’t know if what you show is even correct. Looks like the Thai is saying more than the English.)For the CD, the female speakers are clear and slow. The male speakers sound like they’ve got their hand in their mouth and need to step about three paces closer to the microphone. (Don’t care if that’s how it is in real life – I’m trying to learn and therefore must have it clear and slow.)

This work has many color photographs and color plates of the uniforms and insignia of the National Socialist German Workers' Party ("Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei") or NSDAP. It first covers the lay-out of the organization rank structure from 1932 through 1945. It has original color plates from Nazi German publications showing the different caps, ranks and collar patches. Chapter Two discusses "The Ortsgruppe" which was the local level of the Nazi Party. Fine examples of uniforms are shown by both original and uniform display photos. This pattern is continued thereafter. The book is good for the military hobbyist and student of World War II.Other chapters cover:Ch. 3: The Kreis - District level, similar to a county.Ch. 4: The Gau - similar to the state level. The head was the "Gauleiter".Ch. 5: The Reich - national level. In change of national level departments. The men were known as "Reichsleiters". Again nice photos of the men, their tunics, shoulder boards, etc.Ch. 6: NS Schools and Party Court. This was the party school system and court system (to rule on party cases and disputes).Ch. 7: Headgear.Ch. 8: Pennants and Flags. Including vehicle pennants or "Hoheitstrager".Ch. 9: Armbands.Ch. 10: Collar Tabs.Ch. 11: Medals and Regalia.Ch. 12: Period Publications and Documents.Footnote: This book does rely heavily on another book listed in its bibliography: "Cloth Insignia of the NSDAP & SA" by John R. Angolia, R. James Bender Publishing Co. (1985). I own that book as well and have reviewed it (rating it at 5 stars). It has been out of print for a number of years.

As is typical, Schiffer publications are of a high quality production. Photographs are reproduced in exacting clarity, making the items as close as you get to touching them. In this volume, Jeff Clark has been able to assemble an extensive collection of related uniform pieces that is amazing, especially given the "de-nazification" programs initiated by the Allies after WWII, where such historical things were destroyed.Further, his text explaining the para-military rank structure of these largely political/government entities (non-military), opens the door to a whole new arena of understanding what is seen . . . be it in museums, collections, original photographs, or film. I highly recommend this book to anyone wishing to better understand what the common German civilian of this era was surrounded by on a daily basis . . . and the greater influence it had on the population.

I have seen few reference books with such outstanding photography and informative text. Truly a superior work!

very good book, exellent photo's, text could have been a little bigger. i would have liked to see more on the nsdap ( napola ) school system. also, more info on the nsdap court system.

Another winner from schiffer publishing company. They always seem to put out the best reference books in the third reich area. While i'm not a collector of uniforms, I do enjoy studying the photographs and info in this book. This reference covers a great portion of the nsdap uniforms and has excellent photos to show in the field and being displayed in private collections. Although i have more of an interest in the german armed forces rather than the beureaucrats, I still find this interesting, and this would go well with any other reference material for uniforms and regalia.
