Well written book about two brothers who had a vision and made it happen. The Wright brothers solved a mystery the of flight that escaped many others before them. What is ignored in the telling of the Wright brothers is the third man who remained in the background, The three worked as a team in all aspects running the businesses and in designing the first powered airplane. Charles Taylor, a self taught machinist, without plans made from scratch the light weight engine they needed; no other manufacturer of engine could provide one. Taylor's machining skill was needed to make the metal parts and the vital light weight engine needed to make flying possible. Because no accurate and detailed notes or diaries were kept during all the activity that went into making powered flight possible Taylor's part in the endeavor was lost.

Once you read the "How We Invented the Airplane" by Orville Wright, you realize just how closely they depended on the works of Otto Lilienthal to invent controlled flight. Otto was an engineer so the book has engineering equations. After Otto's untimely death, the Wright Brothers were able to take Otto's work and apply it towards inventing controlled flight. I clearly see the difference between "pure research" done by Otto and "applied research" done by the Wright brothers. It is always a struggle as to who should get the credit as applied research cannot succeed without basic research. When you read both books, you realize the credit for inventing flight should go to Otto & the Wright brothers. Suggest reading Orville's book first.

I'm an Aeronautical Engineer, retired from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, a Division of United Technology Corporation, a pilot with a Commercial rating, and over 55 years of flying experience......having flown Piper Cubs, T-28's, T-birds, B-47's, F-84's, F-86H's, and Cessna 172's, and 182's....Lots of fun and experiences! The book tells it like it was for two young brothers to invent, and perform for the first time, controlled flight. It was an inspiration to me and to any one. Other customers should obtain this book to share the excitement and model of what can be done if you are dedicated, and willing to 'keep at it'!

I liked Tom Crouch’s “The Bishop's Boys: A Life of Wilbur and Orville Wright” and when I saw this referenced I bought it. I must say it had real resonance while adding context. It’s short and concise and help’s you to understand what drove them (even after having read a 600 page biography). I recommend it to anyone who admires the Wright Bros. as I do. I’m not sure if you should read this before or after “The Bishop's Boys” but either way they’re both must reads for aviation aficionados.This is a picture book and the illustrations are excellent but you’ve already seen most (but not all) of them, but I was most interested in the text, you’re left wanting more - if only Orville had written an autobiography.

Gift for husband who is a pilot. He enjoyed reading this as it was filled with so much history. I would recommend this to anyone interested in aviation history or the Wright brothers.

I hate to confess that I didn't even know that the Wright Brothers had written anything later in life. This was so great to read about how Orville Wright and his brother and family really felt about their quest.As co-owner of an aviation restoration company that works on older aircraft, this book meant more to me than most.What I have noticed about most pilots is that except for those who get involved in the military or through chance - most pilots are almost "meant" to fly from the start. It is something that inspires them from the time they are kids. With the cost of flying and owning an aircraft, not every kid pursues his dream, but for Orville and the rest - once they are up in the sky it makes it all worthwhile.

Excellent research material for studying the Wright Brothers. If you are a pilot it is a must read.

Very interesting to see history through Orville's eyes. Very detailed commentary.

First and foremost, this is a textbook. If you need it for a class and are unwilling to drop said class, I recommend you get it. I would urge you to rent this book over purchasing it, as it has little value outside of the first read. You will not reference it later.The author has a writing style that is both pleasant and easy to follow. I take no issue with him or his work. The content itself provides more of an overview of operating systems. Perhaps a better title would have been "A Review of Operating Systems"?You will not be diving deeply into any topic in relation to operating systems. Again, this provides more of a review. It covers Windows platforms well enough, with brief mention of MacOS and Linux. The real value comes from performing the projects at the end of each chapter. If your class does not perform these or assign you to do so, not much learning will occur. Without the projects, this book functions as both an expensive and verbose brochure of modern operating systems.While the content is largely similar between the 4th and 5th edition, save for chapter eight; the review questions are not. They have been modified significantly enough to justify getting the latest version and incurring the inflated price in doing so. If this book is to be used for a class, I recommend its acquisition. If you are a self learner, I recommend passing on this book. Select a book more focused on your preferred domain (e.g.: Windows, MacOS, or Linux).

As you can see in the photos. The first book I ordered was like this almost throughout whole book. So I exchanged for a new one. Got the new one and still have this on pages. Is disappointing when you spend $174 and the quality is not good. Of course class started so I didn’t have time to exchange this one out either.

Thankful didn't have to purchase new.$$$$

This is well organized; all the usual information you would expect. Good quality paper, which is helpful because I use the guide while hiking. Maps are included to help with orientation. The middle of the book has some excellent pictures. I would have appreciated more hints about "best time of day" at certain locations for photography. There were "some" tips, but not many. This book is only for DAY hikes. there is a Trail locator map in the beginning. It is easy to pick a trail in a given area that way. There is a summary listing of all the hikes in 3 categories; easy moderate and strenuous. There is also a large index in the back of the book; for easy referral back into the book of hikes for locations and viewing of the map relative to your inquiry. This book has saving me many hours of searching online for this same information in the book.

The guide is straightforward with some useful information. Advertised "NOW WITH GPS-COMPATIBLE MAPS" is an overstatement. Instead of a proper graticule, the maps have only latitude and longitude marginal ticks with no indication of the datum used. The only way to figure out the datum is to locate a clearly-defined point, enter its coordinates in your GPS using a typical datum like WGS84 or NAD27. If the point is about a football field length off, then you should try the other datum. The color photographs are stunning and the brief descriptions of wildlife are interesting.

If you are planning a trip Glacier National Park, this is a great book to review before you go. It provides great information on hikes in the park. For someone who does not know the area, it is really good. Since it is a kindle book, I was able to take it with me on my tablet and read about things to do once we got to Glacier.

While tracking around Glacier National Park, this handy, little book became the hiking bible. Partner and I frequently would read up on hike options the night before, and then travel out the next day with book in hand mapping out the day's journeys. I've used other books, but this was the most helpful and insightful for us.

This book is great for helping in planning what hikes you want to take. The only down side is that they don't show pictures of all the trails. I really wish they did so you can get a sample of what you would see. However, I don't know of any other books that offers both the pictures and the detailed descriptions. Like I said, it does offer good descriptions along with mileage and tips. This is a must have if you are going to Glacier National Park.

Glacier Day Hikes was one of two guides I purchased prior to a recent trip to Glacier National Park and Waterton Lakes (the sister park in Canada). There are 34 hikes listed here broken down by geographic regions inside Glacier. At the beginning of each hike listing, there is some basic information such as length in miles, level of difficulty, and best time of year to complete the hike. The maps and detailed descriptions are clear and relatively easy to use.Overall, this is a good guide and if it was the only one I had purchased, I probably would have been pretty happy with it. Since I had the opportunity to compare it to another book, however, certain flaws became rather apparent. First, this book is too large to fit in a pocket so you can't easily bring it on the trail. Second, the elevation change (or amount of climbing) during the hike is not given either in the summary or the detailed description. This is a huge factor in determining the difficulty of a hike and should be included. Their difficulty rating is nice, but I prefer to gauge some aspects of the hike myself. Another quirk in the book is that the geographic categories don't make a lot of sense. Glacier National Park has several areas that lend themselves to this kind of distinction but in some cases the book made up its own boundaries instead and I found this very confusing to use. Finally, the book includes no hikes from Waterton, so if you go to the Canadian side, you will get no guidance here.Comparing Glacier Day Hikes to the Best Easy Day Hikes Glacier and Waterton Lakes National Parks, 2nd (Best Easy Day Hikes Series) it's pretty easy for me to say that the Falcon Guide was more helpful. It had none of the flaws that Glacier Day Hikes did and was the one that I carried with me during the whole trip including the hikes themselves. This book does list more hikes within Glacier, but they are all longer hikes that many people won't want to try anyway. This is certainly not a bad book; it has a lot of useful information. But it is not as helpful as "Best Easy Day Hikes" so I can't recommend it.

This is a perfect book for folks that are headed to Glacier NP for the first time or second, we used this to determine the type of trail, easy/moderate/ or challenging. Great purchase.

The Glacier Day Hike book includes most of the popular trails, and some less known trails. The description of the trails is good with some interesting information about biology and history. But there are some glaring mistakes. One trail is described as 17 miles long (round trip) and easy, but is actually only 6-7 miles (round trip).Trails are classified as easy, moderate and difficult. There is not information about elevation gain, and the classification at times seems a bit arbitrary as if different people had evaluated them.My two biggest complains are:1)No information about elevation gain.2)Trail heads at camp grounds and other developed areas were hard to find.

The team is being attacked by a blogger named Dethroned. Jameson is the computer whiz but can't seemed to find who it is. He is also on the hockey team. He has been friends with Shannon through school. They are so good together once they go further than just friends. The Queen from Dethroned strikes against them. Love the ups and downs with this book and trying to figure out who the Queen is. Another exciting, adventure of this series of the kids of the original group.

I absolutely love this series. I was so excited for Jamie’s story and too finally see exactly who is The Queen. I love Jamie and Shannon together, you can feel their connection for each other as you read. Their story had me hooked from page one and the ending was perfect. I can’t wait for Drake’s story next.

The book was a page turner and a great addition to the series. Jamie is the hot nerd of the hockey team and you hear about his complicated relationships in the other books in the series, so I couldn’t wait to read his story. There is a mystery to solve and a Queen to unmask. Jamie has two complete opposite girls involved, some decisions to make and all the characters in the series are involved. This is more about the tech side of the family than the hockey in this story and we get more information on Jamie’s immediate family. I don’t know if I agree with one of the decisions made. I was kind of hoping he would compromise with both and have it all, but I don’t want to give the decision away.I enjoyed the story and how everything plays out. I truly love the series and can’t wait for Donovan’s story!

I am new to this series, even legacy series, but the author did a great job in explaining things so that I knew what was going on and was not confused, which was super great!This was an interesting read. I felt as if there was a lot going on in which the main characters were not only in college, but had multiple hobbies that they were doing as well. Jamie was not only a hockey player, but he was a brilliant coder and was being pushed and pulled in two different directions and Shannon was a little more of the norm in which she was working as well as spending a lot of time with her family.It felt a little busy, but other than that, I loved the story line. Give me a hot jock any day!! I love that and a coder no less, yes please!Jamie is a wonderful guy, like I mentioned before, he is a hockey player and his family creates some of the most popular video games and he is a bit of a geek himself. He is struggling at the beginning of this story because he fell for his long time friend a while back and she completely stabbed him in the back, like AWFULLY stabbed him in the back. This has definitely hindered his decision making skills for the female variety.I adored Shannon! She has a work ethic like none other and even though she is shy, she is able to put herself out there with Jamie and not be walked over either-- you go girl!This was an entertaining read and while there was a lot going on, I enjoyed reading it and will definitely check out more from the author!4 outta 5 from me!PS: I voluntarily received this book as an ARC in return for my honest feedback!

I highly recommend you get your hands on this series, each book comes brimming with heartfelt emotion, and characters that will leave permanent indent on your heart!
