I wish this guidebook had been published when I visited Montevideo 16 years ago. Though I had a good time, I see now it could have been 10-times more fun. But I’m enjoying thinking about my next trip from my swivel chair at home because the book is so lively and personable, reading it is like making a new friend. I mean, this is the only guidebook you’ll find that uses rating categories of “Thumbs up!” “Mehhh” and “Mehhh antidote.” The author, Karen, defines what it means to be the hostess-with-the-mostess. The Live Music chapter includes lists of lesser-known artists who will “blow you away,” the popular and the off-the-beaten-track venues where they play, how to post a request for a reservation via FB, and exactly what to write in Spanish! She even tells you what albums to listen to before you arrive. Though a self-proclaimed “beer woman,” Karen still goes out of her way to appeal to wine-lovers like me, consulting real experts to list the best restaurants for wine lovers, 12 best budget wines, vineyard tours from “rustic” to “luxury”, and “great little wine stores.” The guidebook has advice about everything you would expect to see, from tips on getting to and from, weather and what to wear, where to stay, what to tip—it’s all in here, along with a good dose of humor and enticement to buy your tickets to Uruguay straight-away.

The Guru'Guay guide MADE my trip to Montevideo. I was there for 5 weeks so I had a lot of time to try many of the recommendations in the book. The explanation of how to use the bus route website was invaluable. So was the insight into proper amounts to tip. I'm from the U.S. and would recommend this book strongly. Thanks Guru'Guay for the great background on the area, the spot-on restaurant reviews and the great advice for side trips. :}~

Informational: Yes! Not what I would describe as a true guide. Author provides personal opinions based on her experiences and makes several recommendations (sounded more like sale-pitches to colleagues) without comparative points of reference. For someone who is ignorant of the culture it may be more useful than to experienced travelers. All in all she reveals things about the area that will be helpful to anyone who does not know what to expect and for that reason it will be valuable to many. For whatever is worth I bought two (one to gift), in hindsight I should have bought one and after glancing at it for a couple of hours, I would give it to someone planning on travelling there. I'll get my money's worth just to try a couple of the author's favorite places, but it will not be the rental car place she recommends - absurd pricing for car rental regardless of what they do before, or after the car rental.

When I was planning my November 2017 trip to Uruguay, I was really struggling to find any type of helpful travel information. Again and again, I kept finding the Guru'guay blog, which has fabulous articles and recommends. Through the blog, I found this book and also wound up staying at Karen's fabulous Casa Sarandi in Montevideo.This book was a treasure trove of great information and was invaluable - not only to better understand all of the wonderful things I could do, but also to get a better sense of the Uruguayan culture.This book is a gotta-have if you are heading there - and don't miss her Beaches and Wine Country book as well!

Uruguay is a good place to spend several days, especially if you are also planning a trip to Brazil or Argentina. And this Guru'Guay Guide is a must and really helps you plan your stay. We used Karen Higgs' recommendation for our hotel, the Alma Historica, and for a city guide and Carnival guide. It is an easy read, and you can also download a copy and use it on Kindle.Well worth the price

It's hard to find info on Montevideo and this has it all. She got us to and from places and helped exprience the everyday culture! Thanks to the author and her website we got tickets for the ferry between Montevideo and Argentina for half the price we were finding through Boquebus on their other brand Seacat. Same company and equip. Different brands.

While I haven't visited Uruguay, I plan to retire to Montevideo in a few years. I'm doing all the research I can, and Karen's book is a winner. I'm interested in neighborhoods, food, and cultural activities and I learned so much, without a lot of the tourism "come ons" that are on the travel sites. She has lived there many years and her love of the city (and country) is very apparent, and she knows her stuff. If you follow Guru'Guay on Facebook, you know that she has a passion for what she does, and that comes through in her book. Very highly recommended, and I can't wait to get there.

Luckily I found this guide just before my husband and I left on a two-week plus trip to Uruguay a month ago. The information provided by the guru was invaluable as it dovetailed with our desire to sample historic cafes, travel by bus around Montevideo and further into the country. The author's website, guruguay.com, featured an article on an estancia, which we arranged to visit and enjoyed immensely. Besides the great practical advice, we indulged in some of her recommendations, which were spot on. Looking forward to her next guidebook.

I used this book to prepare for my 4th marathon. I was looking for an edge in my training, as my improvements in my first 3 marathons were incremental. I followed the Core Diet to a tee for the 2 months preceding my marathon and I'm happy to report that I was able to shave 5 minutes off my time and qualify for Boston. Following the fueling suggestions described in this book, I maintained my goal pace for the entire race and did not hit a wall. I will use this nutrition plan for all future races.

I followed the principles of the diet before the book was published. I lost 18 pounds in six months and haven't had any nutrition or GI problems during races. I have read the book and it is an easy read with great information.

Great book I learned a lot from it. As a beginner this book gave me a good start to make things I could actually use. Also explained nutrition in an easy to understand way.

About the Author

Faye C. McQuiston is professor emeritus of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma. He is an active member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), recently completing a term as vice president. He has served on the Board of Directors and the Technology, Education, Member, and Publishing Councils, and he is  past member of the Research and Technical, Education, and Standards Committees.   Dr. McQuiston is a registered professional engineer and a consultant to several system design and equipment manufacturing firms. He is active in research related to the design of heating and air-conditioning systems, particularly  heat-exchanger design and simulation and load calculations. He has written extensively on heating and air conditioning and is the coauthor of a basic fluid mechanics and heat transfer text. Jerald D. Parker is a professor emeritus of mechanical engineering at Oklahoma Christian University after serving 33 years on the mechanical engineering faculty at Oklahoma State University.   During his tenure at Oklahoma State, he spent one year on leave with the engineering department of Du Pont in Newark, Delaware. He has been active at both the local and national level in ASME, where he is a fellow. In ASHRAE he has served as chairman of the Technical Committee on Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer, chairman of a standards project committee, and a member of the Continuing Education Committee. He is a registered professional engineer Jeffrey D. Spitler is a professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at Oklahoma State University, Stillwater.. Please, educators, DO NOT PICK THIS BOOK. I am currently attending my university for my Mechanical Engineering degree, and have a thermal systems class that uses this book. I am in shock that it was ever even published. Example problems consistently skip the exact new step the problem is supposed to show you, newly introduced variables are consistently NOT identified in the text and you just find them in example problems and have to reverse engineer what the mystery variables are, and many of the exercises at the back of every chapter do not give the student enough information to even decipher what the book is asking for. I am not simply a student looking to blame a bad book for a difficult time learning material, I PROMISE YOU this book has legitimate problems that have been constantly neglected. DO NOT USE THIS BOOK.

...you could probably get a better HVAC book than this if you made the monkeys into gladiators and had an interpretive dance instructor record their combat movements as text. You could probably even skip the typewriters entirely and save yourself the maintenance costs. By far the worst textbook that I have owned throughout my mechanical engineering classes. Concepts are poorly explained and inconsistently detailed. Equations frequently fail to define any variables at all, or better yet include conversions within them to discourage the use of dimensionally homogeneous units. Sometimes variables are named and defined with functions, only to have the text inconspicuously declare a few pages later that a different variable will be used in its place henceforth. Some chapters provide multiple tables without fully defining what property the values actually are. Other chapters use tables that neglect to say what the data points even are until many pages later. Equations are occasionally outright wrong, such as "(1/E) - (1/e1) + (1/e2) - 1e", which can be found on page 132. Chapter six provides two tables for the conductance of air but fails to declare whether either of them is accounting for radiant, convective, or conductive heat. Diagrams and their corresponding text are frequently on entirely different pages. I got a 3.5 in both fluid mechanics and thermodynamics, and find myself referring to those textbooks far more often than I do this one.I would rather the world freeze to death for lack of heating than give another $180 to what I can only assume is a gang of clowns whos knowledge of the topic fails to extend beyond applying the ideal gas law to balloon animals.

The product is good in itself but I dislike the writing style of the authors. It is difficult to understand some of the concepts or examples at times due to poor explanations.

This book has major discrepancies, simple mistakes and just does not do the material justice.This book was chosen as the text book for the first HVAC design course. Due to the distance to my university (roughly 60 miles), I do all of my work by myself between weekly classes. I have found obvious discrepancies in every single chapter. I am half way through chapter 6 and have had more trouble figuring out what's going on than any of my prior 36 college courses. This book does not label their units in examples, and they do not show where they came up with many of their numbers. The entire class agrees that 6 editions should be more than enough time to iron out any terrible obvious mistakes. This is apparently not true.To finish off this review I'd like to say the book says it comes with a CD containing programs discussed in the text. instead of a disk, it was packed with a slip of paper with a code on it. When the code was plugged in at Wiley's website, no access was granted. Not a single student was able to access the program.If you're looking for a good book to learn from, choose something else.

This book is equal in quality of content to edition 5 except that the version of edition 6 being sold here does not contain the CD normally included with this textbook. The publisher's web site states "New to this edition (edition 6) is the inclusion of additional realistic, interactive and in-depth examples on CD". This CD would also contain the software that was included with edition 5. According to the publisher's tech support however, the version of edition 6 being sold by Amazon.com is for use under the guidance of an instructor where apparently the material on the CD would not be needed. If this book is for personal use I recommend a version that includes the CD.

Great book, I like that is a smaller text book. I still use this as a reference from time to time. However there are a few table errors that you have to keep an eye out for.

I understand that this is a classic of French literature, and I'm not saying that I could have written anything better, especially in French, but this love triangle focusing on a young primadonna becomes somewhat tiresome with its "lather-rinse-repeat" motif of love, hate, loathing...But it's a classic.

I must say Simone De Beauvoir is an eclectic and prolific writer. In these short stories, she details in each and every emotion the characters feel at the moment .

Stunning writing, the 3 stories are so different, but keep you interested the whole time!

Nice reading, pages run quickly for a mediocre reader.

Extreemly good, as you would expect.

I kept thinking that this "novel" is actually autobiographical; but (fortunately) not the ending. DeBeauvoir's struggles with her insecurities are made painfully clear. In re-reading some of the episodes, I had a different opinion of the young woman. Maybe she really was innocent and accepting of the arrangement. Simone needed to understand "compersion", a term in the polyamory community. They all accepted the open arrangement; but Simone apparently felt that her position as the "primary" was threatened. The ending was troubling for me. Who really is the evil one, eh? Definitely worth reading and debating for a while.

Yasss.

Beauvoir is a sublime writer of fiction. Her perspective as a woman is mature and compelling.
