Many of the recipes in this book can be made with ingredients that I already have in my refrigerator or pantry. Nothing is better than planning a meal that does not require a special trip to the grocery store!Last night at 4pm, I pulled this book out for dinner inspiration. By 5:15pm, dinner was ready, which included Protein-packed Turkey Meatballs (minus the hemp hearts and mint since I didn't have those on hand) and Maple Acorn Squash. Additionally, while we ate dinner, the Crispy Cinnamon-dusted Chickpeas cooked in the oven for an after dinner snack.Many of the cookbooks in my collection often require a shopping list and a concerted effort to find all the ingredients as well as special herbs and spices not standard to a average kitchen. Not with Mom's Sugar Solution. While I initially ordered this book to find inspiration for reducing sugar in recipes and snacks, I was surprised at how easy and simple the recipes are. With the turn of every page, I thought to myself, "Oh, I could make that right now!" or "The only thing I would need from the store is..."I appreciate that Laura approached the sugar solution with a mindset of everything in moderation. Some of the recipes do use a little bit of sugar, but most of the sweeteners are all-natural (applesauce, fruit/frozen fruit, maple syrup, etc.) While my family does not have a big problem with consuming too much sugar, as a parent it still requires constant monitoring. Finally a cookbook full of healthy recipes you can make quickly and with ingredients everyone has on hand — that appeal to the whole family! My six year old, who is a picky eater, is currently dogearing pages with recipes she’d like to try making with me — WHAT? I’m not much of a cook but the recipes and format and ingredients are all so approachable. This cookbook delivers more than promised — it’s great for the whole family AND makes kids want to get in the kitchen. Order it now; you’ll thank yourself when it arrives!
This is my kind of cookbook - reasonably short ingredient lists and clear instructions for everything from main dishes to sides, snacks, beverages and even desserts! I have a goal to lower my family's sugar intake and my three kids (ages 9, 7 and 3) found lots of recipes that excited them in this book. Those we've tested so far were hits with my discerning eaters and, big bonus: made primarily with ingredients already stocked in my kitchen.
My 3 1/2 yr odl grandson in CA loves this book- he calls it his treat book and we pick out items to make together- Ruby soda, Apple Cheddar melt, Spicey peanut noodles with Shrimp! Plus, he wants a cake with strawberries on top and lots of whipped cream and the cake on the cover is his birthday cake!!! Adults love these recipes too!!
I’m a working mom with two picky eaters, which means we have a pretty boring weekly food routine. This book is full of great ideas to mix up our meals. More importantly the recipes are easy to follow and kid friendly.
Love the Ruby Red Soda and the Popeye Pizza Bombs. Many great recipes.
